I've got a customer that wants ablam rosette and purflings comparable to those on a taylor presentation series. Can someone tell me which type of Ablam they're using and how wide the rosette is?

Thanks, Don

I believe they are using .063" wide Paua for the purfling and the rosette. I am afraid that unless you want to cut your own rosette ring you will be limited to 4.921 ID rosette ring segments The good news is I believe this is what Taylor uses I know for a fact that most Taylor guitars with abalone purfling and rosettes they use green ablam but I think I recall on presentation models they were much blue-er in color and that would be the Paua.

Thanks.

I typically use .063 for my purflings and rosettes. The rosettes look much wider to me.

I just did some checking and I am right on every thing but the rosette They are using 1/4" wide on the rosette. That is available and through Rescue Pearl and some other vendors. Here again the circle ID of the ablam will be 4.921" There is not much different her than Martin D45 purfling other than the wide rosette.

Check out Taylor's web site/accoustics/presentations models they have several pictures from several angles

one of the pictures looked a bit like Red ablam so I bet they use what ever exceptional pieces of Paua or Red they have on hand at the time

Thanks, I've seen the pics. Just wasn't sure about the rosette and where to get it. I've checked several places (Duke of Pearl, Rescue Pearl, etc.) and only find it up to .135" wide. I may have to cut it myself.

Check out Australian Mother of Pearl Co. who is a sponsor. They will custom cut for you and the service is terrific.

+1

Had them do some thinner rings for rosettes, have enough to last me a decade or two now, and the price and service were great.
