I just got these pics back from Joe White who has already stained and sealed one of the 2 electrics I'm currently having affairs with...and it was only Friday when I dropped it off at his shop. Having discussed and built acoustics for so long, I almost feel like I'm cheating on the cause. In reality, this has been a very refreshing break in the action...and I noticed that Brother Matt is also taking a similar sabbatical.

Anyway, "Shredder" is a loosely Strat-based solid body except that it will have 2 humbuckers and a 24-fret neck. My son and I designed the laminate scheme and worked out the other details together...Frank insisted on a maple FB and 24 frets as well as the Seymour Duncan pups. The laminate consists of a Mahogany core with Walnut, Bloodwood and Curly Maple. Before actually cutting out the shape it took us a month to decide on whether we wanted Walnut or Maple on top....so we actually flipped a coin and Walnut won. The armrest and belluy cutouts really highlight the lams and he was blown away by how they reveal themselves.

So here are a few pics I just got from Joe

That is one smokin' looking axe there JJ. I love the bloodwood/maple combination. I've never seen that before and I really love it. I'd really like to see a close up of the fb/binding, it really looks stunning.

Smokin' hot there JJ [clap] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Wow JJ,that is extremely nice. I love the effect of the laminated parts. I'd like a closer look at the headstock if you have another pic. Those extra sized cutaways are perfect for the shredder as well. Well done JJ!!!

Absolutely killer bro! I can already hear those screaming pinch harmonics! That wood combo and the bloodwood lam is rather mint...

Thanks for the kind words. One thing I've found is that building electrics affords a lot more creativity in design. But I also believe that the sonic choices are somewhat confusing for me right now...fortunately the boys are guiding me in the right direction. Waddy...I don't play the shredders...just build them. Here are a few showing more details:

Mr. Donohue...

I love the attention to detail on both sides of this guitar, with the lamination and choice of woods.. If this was my guitar, my main dilemma would be to decide which side to rout the pup channels!

My Dear Old Fossil,
That's a sweet guitar you got there...dude.
I know what you mean by the term sabbatical.
After coercing a set of wood into an acoustic guitar, it's somewhat a joy to build an electric. I'm watching your progress with both admiration and envy, and know that you're having a lot of fun.
Good for you!

Steve

Sam...No need to be sorry...thanks!

Steve...This has become so much fun that I decided that I will alternate my efforts between acoustic and electrics. The 2nd electric that I'm currently working on is a bit more complex and also special to me. It should be delivered to Joe late this week. So now my wood lust covers both genres and just doubles the possibilities...and expense :(

Ken...until my sons became aware of amplified guitar music, I thought that shredders were purchased in an office supply store! :D

Max...your flamenco guitars are the original acoustic shredders!

looking great JJ, great to see that kind of cool wood lamination in a guitar, as it's usually only basses that get that kind of zoot

That looks good, JJ! I play and build electrics, so bring this or one of your other electrics when we meet up on the 8th! Maybe I'll bring you one of my preamps for you to install.

Thanks Mark...I'm not even sure what a preamp will do once it's installed! :( I believe that Frank will have taken possession of the Shredder by the time of the meeting, however, the 2nd electric should be available for the 8th if Joe isn't inundated with work by then.
