Hi guys,

I was curious whether anybody knows anything about him or his work, other than the guitar owned by Michael Hedges.

Copyrighted Image of Michael Hedges and a dreadnought guitar. Warren, this may be the DuBourg acoustic he bought after attending Peabody Institute. He came back for this guitar, but it was already sold. He purchased one of DuBourg's more expensive models and he and DuBourg tracked down the student that had the guitar and negotiated a successful trade.

I checked Michael out on Wikipedia.org and found out he died in 1997 in a car wreck near Medocino California. He was born out in Oklahoma at Enid in 1953. Reminds me of a friend who grew up in Mena, Arkansas. Wow.

The DuBourg guitar he owned was a dreadnought but had some elements of a classical guitar built into it? Hope you find this Ken fella and learn a bit about this guitar too. Good luck.

PS Warren, I really enjoy your playing and thanks for posting all the vids on YouTube. You really could quit your day job... with the right circumstances...

I may be wrong, but I belive the DuBourg was a smaller bodied guitar, the one in the picture is "Barbara", Michaels 1971 Martin D-28.

There is a great story behind teh DeBourg guitar, how it was stolen after a gig and some 10 years later recovered in very bad shape.

Lance, you are correct. Buck Curran knows a thing or two about this guitar. He wrote an article in Acoustic Guitar March 2006 which includes some info on this very duBourg guitar.

http://www.curranguitars.com/news.htm

There are no copyrights shown on the website, but I know Acoustic Guitar articles are under copyright so you'll have to go over there to see the instrument, plus read details on it's making. Buck Curran is building a model patterned on the Hedges duBourg. Interesting.

This is interesting, Mischa is Michael Hedges son. He's 23. This is his mYSpace page, it has three or four original songs on it.

Warren, Here is the answer to whether the address in Curran's photo of the guitar was any good:

Michael Hedges has a video out - The Artists Profile :
http://www.nomadland.com/AP_Hedges.htm
On the video, Michael tells the story of his DuBourg, how it
was stolen, how he written many songs on it (including a wedding
song for his wife - Woman Of The World). He also plays part of
the song : Baal T’shuvah in this section of the video on the
Dubourg. Plenty of good close up shots.

There's quite a bit of good info on the site listed above. Just poke
around a bit.

Mike
