I'm co-building a guitar with someone extremely talented on the forum, and we need some tops!

One heavily-clawed non-sitka spruce, and one in port orford cedar. We might use sitka if it's really amazing, but it's last resort as I don't really like the bleach-white look. Preference goes, of course, to sponsors of the forum with second in line being reputable dealers who will supply photos.

Anyone have some leads? (I've already e-mailed Old Standard)

Bob sorry for the partial high-jack here but after reading your post I had a question if I may please.

Is Adi available in bear claw, anyone?

Hesh,
I have some Adi with bear claw.... not heavily figured but I have seen some gorgeous Adirondack Bearclaw tops. I believe Steve at Colonial may have some.

Bob,

I did some Port Orford Cedar shopping a month or so
back.

I've never done business with them, but oregonwildwood.com has some
amazing-looking POC tops (described as 35-60 grain lines/inch).

They're a bit expensive, but look lovely.

Pacificcoastwoods.net has some more reasonably priced ones.

Dave Maize at maizeguitars.com also has POC soundboards in a range of
grades, but no pictures on the website.

Hey, Bob... RC Tonewoods should still have some POC. I just strung-up an SJ with a POC top I got from Bob.

Bob, I got some nice bearclaw (I'd say it was medium, not heavily bearclawed) and some POC tops from LMI just a couple of weeks ago.

I looked into that, and apparently the stuff I've been getting was the really whitish BC stuff...so I've been overlooking the darker varieties of sitka. Sometimes a little Googling sets one straight when experience has led them astray!

Bob,

I probably have a a few Lutz Bearclaw tops that are more colourful. Let me know if you are still looking. I can't help the POC but nice colourful and stiff WRC I can help with!

I have some bearclaw Sitka listed on my new website.

http://www.colonialtonewoods.com/Sitkas ... artops.htm

Take a look and feel free to call or PM if you have any questions.
