It's been stated REPEATEDLY by Lance to keep it rated "G" around here. My kids like to look at this site too.

Poor form Martin!

Relax...if this is the worst thing your kids see on the internet, then your doing just fine. A piece of wood that has figure that resembles the female form or a smilie that is smoking a cigarette or joint should be that last of your worries on the internet.

Martin, too bad about the C-Section in that wood. But... Just like Bob Taylor and his Pallet Guitar, it'll make a fine sounding instrument.

All the comedians have a coarse joke that bombs every now and then. Hey we do like exotic pictures of guitars though. Keep at it man, keep at it.

And anyway I have seen posts on the OLF like this before and no-one ever reacted against those. What's changed?

Its not whether its funny or not.....
if the rules can be broken with every stupid little joke where does one draw the line?

What if I started a meaningless little religious thread? would THAT be ok to everyone?


Please be aware that many of us have little children that like to brouse the forum and some of us parents don't want our children exposed to your funny little jokes.

Martin,

Europeans seem more relaxed about the human form in general, and in the female form in particular.

Americans had the Puritans, and they never really died out - their feelings for "decency" and "indecency" haunt us to this day. Don't be upset with those Americans that immediately think negative thoughts when the human form is exposed, or even hinted at - they have had that flavor of moral decency hammered into them over many, many years.

Re-title your post "Alien Visitor", or "Do You See the Frog?", and maybe some folks will see the Rorschach test differently. My 8 year old daughter wasn't offended, probably because she got no signals from her dad that she should be offended.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree.
First of all, not only was I born in Europe, I lived there over 20 years.
Last think I need is for one of my daughters to ask me what porn is when we are surfing a site that is supposed to be G-Rated.

Its not a question of whether it is decent or indecent for some but rather, is it decent/acceptable to all of us here?

You must keep in mind that we all have our own views or what is moral and what is profane. The reason for the banning of the term and the exhibit of of such a figure in wood that is explicitly described via words and pencil marks as yours was is that for some of us it more than pushes the boundary of good taste considering we really never know the audience that is on line at any given time. We know this from experience.

I will metaphorical ask one question with no need to actually answer, But i think my question will explain the forum and many of our members point of view.


The question is
Would you have sent this post in an email to your Priest, Daughter or Mother?

Wow??????? I think we all knew the Humor in it. The problem is This is not exclusively a adult men's club. There are children that view this site, females that are members that are likely to be offended and even men of the cloth or in Deacon ship that are member and or guest. To trivialize the issue of proper and appropriate content here is just wrong

Guys (this is an exclusive mens club, right?), there's a difference between figure drawing, appreciation of figure and beauty, and couple of 13 year old pimply boys looking at something and saying "dude look - see the p---- and t---. hu, huh huh." I know you didn't intend it this way Martin and I'm not trying to insult or offend, but when I opened the page I certainly got more the impression of the latter. So did my wife as she walked by the computer, rolling her eyes and saying "so these are the guys you're hosting a meeting for at your shop?".

I don't get offended here - I live in Ann Arbor for goodness sakes. A town with probably more doulas than obstetricians, where I'm pretty sure a business can be legally burned to the ground for asking a mother to cover herself while breast feeding. I'm not offended, I just saw it as immature and inappropriate for the forum. If it weren't for the use of the word porn preceding the image, it may have passed as innocent irony or even appreciation of figure. The way I read it it just seemed immature. I suppose I just shouldn't have clicked on it to begin with though.
