Speed. Edit. Speed. Edit.Speed. Edit.Speed. Edit.Speed. Edit.
Getting a more accurate preview of a new post.
Being able to open just about anything in a new window.
Much more capable search.
Navigation links at top and bottom of the page.
User Control Panel options.
Pop-up enlarged pics.
Sortable member list is nice, though I may never really use it.
Archive pics are showing now.

Any others?

That our hosts Lance and Brock invested in us and delivered big time - we now have a superb platform in all respects.

The OLF has always at least to me been much more than a forum - it is a community with an abundance of very fine people here and some real world-class professional talents as well. With this said our community just was greatly uplifted into a far nicer neighborhood.

Many thanks Lance and Brock! (I need my clapping hands emoticon and they can be added very easily  )

Has anyone mentioned speed?

I like the open format of the pages, the search function, except for not being able to search on a thread title, and the particularly easy method of formatting your posts, and uploading pictures, and links. I would say that it is very user friendly. Most seem to have figured out how to do nearly everything, and I have not seen much in the way of instruction.

Oh, yeah, the speed!

One more thing I like...

I like being able to click on the litle colored thingie next to the thread title and jumping directly to the first post that I havent read yet without having to scroll through all of the ones I have read.

They say speed kills, but it sure is fun. I don't know enough about computers to have much of an opinion on the features of the new softwre, but it sure is fast.

SPEED....I doubt much of it is the software and I bet its mostly the server the forum now resides on...the old forum loaded up the main page fairly quickly but when one went 'inside' things got rather sluggish, which to me implies it was not a bandwidth issue...

Same thing as with the old forum, the peeps. The grumpy, the slightly crazy, the quietly wise, the slightly opinionated, the goofy and the great, but especially the one in the red dress.

When I log in to the new site I can't access the forums or even see the topics / threads. I have to log out (hope this post works) to read anything. Anyone else have this problem?

Jamie,
what kind of computer do you have ? mAC ? pc ? IF A pc, what version of windows are you running?

If you are running windows, you might try deleting all of your temp files and OLF cookies for a start.

I kinda suspected a MAC... Hesh uses one too and was having all kinds of difficulties at first. I think he figured it out somehow and got it to work. Be sure to check the little box that says "log me in automatically each time I visit" so you dont have to keep logging in to the forum.

Thanks Ken...I couldn't figure it out in 10 minutes or less, (I thought guitar making was supposed to teach me some more patience), so I re-registered.

I think having a Mac is not much of an issue with this php-based package, though it was a bit of a hindrance with the old ASP-based one.

I still have the same problem as Jamie. On both my Mac (Firefox and Safari) and my PC (Internet Explorer). I get bumped off as soon as I log in.

did you put a check in the box that reads "automatically log me in each time I visit" ??

That should stop the getting booted problem...

It's got all kinds of features too! I'll probably be messing around trying to find out what does what! Pretty Cool! 8-)

Don't re-register until you have emailed brock at polingguitars dot com and had him reset your old account. That seems to be working for most people. Go direct. all this re-registering will create even more problems for the data base in the long run. It will leave important threads without posters.

I found something else I like about the new version... It will save me a lot of embarrassment posting empty posts, because there is no quick post that just lets you hit the post button, which I was want to do. Now you get the post screen, and when you realize you don't have anything to say, you can cancel out. :D
