hi to all you wise men out there

i am in need of professional advice! and sought this forum out.
ive taken up a project of making a exact replica rosewood telecaster of my hero george harrison made the neck no problem as i am an experienced carpenter however when i came to the body i used liquid hide glue the join was invisible perfect! i sanded the body down using 1000 grit paper it was like glass applied the first coat of spirit based finish and left it for a few days ahhh! when i returned the joint had started to open and over the next few day got worse. i have now dismantled the body ive been told the reason this could have happened is the the build up of tanic acid and i should have used acitone to wipe joint first! then ive been told that i should use different glues tite bond 3 and now the original tight bond i am getting a lot of conflicting information  can any of you guys give me any concise advice with my dilemma. many thanks

you will get much more knowledgeable advice from others but at a class i attended and after book I read, they recommended Titebond original (over the other titebonds) for joining the plates. oh yeah, and dont forget to post some pics when you are done! :)

Rosewood also loves CA. I join Rosewood backs by simply butting the two plates together with a little bit of pressure and then soaking with thin CA. Jean Larrivee has built many a guitar this way. For something as thick as a Tele body, I'd probably spread on a thin layer of medium CA
using a credit card, and then join the two halves, rub slightly and apply a little clamping pressure.

Hot Hide Glue or Titebond. Hard to beat.

Sorry about your experience with Liquid Hide Glue. It's just a known fact around guitar building circles, avoid it like the plague. Which.... you found out already.

Resaw it off the body, saw the join, and make the outline of the guitar a wee smaller. Or get some new wood, or put a nice stripe down the middle. I think it was Winston Churchill that said it, "Neva give up!"

How dry is your wood? Thick plates can easily force a glue joint apart if they are still shrinking as they dry.
