Hi,

Today I have cherry on my mind. I have a couple of
back and side sets of cherry from the recent swap meet.

I'm looking for a source for cherry neck blanks.

I haven't seen this listed on anyone's site
(and since I've also been suffering post-swap meet,
AC-Woods-and-Colonial hiatus, RC moving WAS
withdrawl, I've been looking).

I want 30 in by approx 1 in for a scarf joint,
stacked heel approach. Figure is optional.

Is curly cherry prone to tearout like curly
maple?)

Thanks,

Eric

Only 9 days until we have "edit" functionality...

The dimensions I meant are 30 in by 3 in by approx
1 in.

Thanks,

Eric

Check with the Zootman. I know he has some.

Eric i know this may not be relevent to you but this may interest the
european guys. I have just sorced a couple of cubic feet of nice
quartersawn cherry for necksblanks.

All my neck blanks are 800mm x 75mm x 25mm minimum for scarfe
necks with staked heels.

I have had so many inquires for cherry necks over the past few weeks i
think it will be a regular thing from now on.

My cherry neck blanks will be priced ?12.50 (or $25) and be resawn and
planed up in two to three weeks.
If you need one in a hurry just give me a yell and i will cut one for ya.

All you U.S guys it would recomend bob c any time as all his wood is first
class (plus the shipping wont kill ya) and his service is spot on.

Joel.

If you don't want curly, I can send you one that I cut myself. Same dimensions you are asking for. I cut about 12 blanks from a board this summer, but they are all straightgrained and pretty featureless.

I have found lots of nice wood on ebay. I built one cherry neck recently and found the weight is quite a bit more than mahogany or maple. I',m still getting used to the balance. It looks beautiful though.

Greg, I have purchased a few cherry necks (mahogany and walnut as well) from Melrose Millworks. Of course this wouldn't be an option if you have your mind set on carving your own.
