This was my son's HS graduation present. He graduated about 5 years ago......
Better late than never is what I always say!!!
I tried to record some sound bytes but it just didn't work out. Maybe later but here are some pics.

Very cool John! The Koa bindings sure look nice against the blue tiger.

Thanks Anthony, also as you can see, during the long building time, one of the knobs came up missing as well as thge screws to atach the access cover.
Does anyone have Jason Voths email address. I promised him a pic when it was done. Jason used to be one of the OLF sponsors and wood seller of the fine curly maple used on this one.
It is wired after the PRS circuit so there is ample tone choices among the 5 selectable positions. It has hot rodded pickup (wouldn't be my first choice) but it suits my sons taste.

That is incredable looking! I like everything about it, but particularly the Koa theme in the bindings and the pickup plates. The colors complement so well.
That sculpted top is wonderful.

JJ, this is the first guitar I have named, "Archie" which is my sons nickname cause he reminds people of the guy in the old kids tv show "worlds strongest man" or some such, anyway it seemed appropreate for the guitar.
Danny, I first masked everything but the bindings and then shellaced them, then masked just the bindings and did the coloring. The color started with some black alcohol based stain, most of which is sanded off (it's just to pop the curl), then I stained it blue with the same kind of stain (just the Stewmac colors in alcohol) and used steel wool to lighten up the center and create the burst. Then I added some of the same blue to lacquer and shaded in and reinforced the burst. I call it "faded blue jeans" which is what I was trying to emulate.
As for hardware, the pickups are just Golden Age from SM, the bridge os also from SM as was the PRS wiring kit. Tuners are Gotoh's.

Interesting John...I think I got the same outrageous maple from Jason at the same time and promised him that I would post results as soon as I completed my LP-type. Well...4 years later, I'm a month or so away from completing the project. If I can locate his email address, I'll send it along.

Ever since you posted the prelim pix of this one, I've been looking forward to the finished shots.
Blue and brown is a classic combo, and it's obvious why in your son's guitar. (Just haven't seen it too much in guitar building.)

John as you know I'm an enormous fan of your acoustic guitars, and now you do this! It's a beauty, I love the combination of the koa binding with the flame blue. OK it's a bit late, but definitely worth waiting for.

That looked fabulous when you posted pictures some time back and it looks even more fabulous now!! The blue maple and koa just are stunning. It's great making instruments for your children - true heirlooms.
