Bob, are you thinking of creating Les Paul and/or SG plans for the OLF or offering CNC'd bodies?

I would buy a set of good plans if you decide to offer them.

Guys, there are good plans. Stew Mac is selling the digitally
captured footprint of the genuine article. What could be better?

I'm talking SG plans. The post evolved into a les paul/SG thing. Stew mac or anyone else doesn't offer quality plans for that. By the way I have the stew mac les paul plan and it is pretty good.

Why on earth do "luthiers" make copies/forgeries of these things?   Why not design your own guitars?   I just don't get it...

I might offer the bodies CNCed, I could do that now if I thought there'd be a lot of interest. I have a Les Paul already programmed. Mainly, though, I was considering making plans. I have a laser scanner here now, so I can get really accurate data on instrument shapes and I can also compare the plan to the real deal digitally.

I have used the stewmac plan for building a LP for a guy who just wanted one. So I tried to build the thing as accurately as possible. Nice excersize in problem solving for trying to work out issues that other guitar builders have done. As far as the neck is concerned I never liked the glued on neck personally, I repeat, personally. So I decided to try and modify it just a bit and work with a bolt on neck system.




I had a lot of fun with the project and unforutnately the guy backed out of the deal. Oh well. The plans are made well and all of the info for the guitar is there although I would have had much more difficulty if I didn't work for a few years as a carpenter and took a few drafting courses. These are plans. Not directions. It will assume you know how to create the different pockets, degrees, and so on. THAT is where it got fun. I also put a few spins on the guitar that I liked to do.
Neck attatchment. As previously stated.
Binding of maple on fretboard and "binding" on the body of maple ala PRS


Rosewood bound flamed maple pickguard. I just love wood.
Here are some pics if I can figure out how to post them.
So to summarize I made a nice guitar because that is what a customer wanted. Had a few problems figuring out HOW to excecute what was on the plan. Had all of the information that I needed to make the guitar.
