i was looking around the internet for heat blankets for bending and i found alot of stuff cause i'm going to need one soon.
Where do you guys get your heat blankets and what else do i need to get with it? (like one of those shut off things or bending strap)

I've also purchased a heating blanket,
temperature control, steel slats, bending
form, and an outside mold from Blues Creek.

All great stuuf at good prices.

Folks who've bought kits from him rave about
both the quality and hand-holding, but I've
never purchased wood from him.

Andrew, I don't know if John carries them or not, but you should consider picking up a timer, like the ones used in photo labs, back in the days of yore. Its cheap insurance that if you get distracted, the blanket will get turned off before flames erupt. And fires have been started with forgotten blankets.

I've had two of John Halls blankets for a long time with absolutly no problems.They are top notch and the price is good....Can't go wrong for sure! He is a great guy too!
John does have the timers and controllers.

John at Blues Creek is an all round awesome guy to deal with, and is very helpful if you have problems,,
I bought mine from Tom Durr (mandomaniac) - and he sold me the complete system > timer, temperature control, and the slats and blanket,,, but Im not sure how you would get a hold of him.. Ive lost his email...

I got mine from Minco.com and they we're very nice as well. Good prices, but John's a full service guy whose got the blankets plus all the other gear mentioned above...slats, controls, timers, etc.

budget wise it is better to buy direct from the makers such as omega or minco. from them a blanket is about $70. you can get the router speed controller to regulate temperature from harbor freight for about $10..

if you are not comfortable splicing wire and other electrical tasks, then you may want to pay the extra and buy from john.

    One thing you need to be aware of. The cheaper blankets are often 2 1/2 watts per inch. I use 5 watts per inch. The lower wattage makes heat recovery too slow and you can case harden the wood and that can cause cracks.

The first blanket I got from minco, they sent me a low wattage by mistake. No bueno. They corrected it as fast as they could, but they do not stock any blankets. They are all one-offs. I don't think they charged any more for the high-wattage, though. I paid about $72 with shipping, but (big caveat here....) it was 3-4 weeks to get it. I think the blanket I'm using now is right at 4.85 watts/inch and I'm happy with it. I just finished bending my second set with it, actually. I did purchase all my other supplies from John, though. Slats, springs, etc. He's been excellent to deal with.
If you don't want to wait and want some excellent advice and even some tutelage, John's the man.

class system that keeps an even tempreture at 305 or whatever you need
which most systems dont do.
