Ron, can I join all of the others in saying what a simply fantastic guitar! The woods all look fabulous and the whole aesthetics is stunning. Your brother is very lucky, you are a fine man Ron.

I was only discussing tru-oil with Dave White recently, (I'm picking his brains). My Kevin Aram classical is finished in it Kevin believes that it is the most acoustically transparent finish of all. Kevin's guitars start at about $7000 for the base model and go way up from there, all are oil finished. Julian Bream has two of his guitars. I've only used it on necks before, but I'm seriously considering trying it on the whole guitar.

Outstanging guitar Ron. Your brother will be thrilled. That Oak is just amazing. I know I'll look a little differently at that Oak log next time I toss one in the fireplace. I'm also building an OM from Kincaid's plans,my first OM too after several dreads. I'm not as far along as you, but you've inspired me to pick up the pace. Thanks for the look.

This is probably abhorrent to some, but how about a clear pickguard.  Or laminate one up with 2 thin, clear pieces and Bloodwood veneer sandwiched between.

Ron, guess I don't have to repeat what's been said a number of times here but that's one great looking guitar.  I think building guitars as gifts is one of the greatest things we can do and you did it right. I'd love to see the look on his face when he opens that case.  You might want to get it on video, I know a bunch of us here would love to see it.

My sad story is that I built a guitar for my brother many years ago and during the finishing process, it dropped to the floor.  I was not well acquainted with good ways to secure a guitar while finishing it, boy did I learn fast after that.  The pieces are still around somewhere and you've inspired me to get going on a replacement for him.  Thanks for that.

I have allways shirked the idea of an oak guitar (i think english oak is alot
courser than your native white oak) but you have proved my instincts
wrong.
What a beautyfull guitar welldone mate, i am sure your brother will be
over the moon.

Colin regarding tru-oil, I love it and also think its one of the most
acousticaly transparent finishes you can get.
I know alot of people say that it shouldnet be used on tops but i have
found that if you realy prep the serfice well with micro mesh right to
12000 grit the oil wont absorb into the top giving a truly transparent and
visualy stunning results.
Give it a go an a bit of scrap to see if you like the results.
Another realy nice oil finish is la tonkinois oil but it is thicker and harder
so i would advise perfect prep then a shelac seal coat with only about 4
coats on the top about 6-8 on the back and sides.
you can very profesional results from both oils.

Getting in kind of late hear, but, all I can say is, what everyone else has already said!

That is one BEAUTIFUL GUITAR!!!

I’ve got some red oak, that I cut and stickered up about 2 months ago. Haven’t been real sure if
it would be anything worth using. Now, after seeing your guitar, I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

How do like working with that Tru-Oil? I used it on my first guitar, and was real pleased with the
final results.

Ron, that looks stunning, I'm using the Kincade book for my first build, so it's great to see that with the right talent it can look so incredible. And the curl and the figure in that oak is just staggeringly gorgeous!

In an interesting coincidence I was planning on tru-oil finishing too...

I shall be very happy, not to mention amazed, if mine looks anywhere near as good as that one when it's done... :)

Craig, at the moment I have no way of recording a sound file. I took it to work today and had a friend (a fine player) play it so I could hear what it really sounded like. I was very pleased and so was he. He started asking commission like questions.

Robert, I like the tru-oil a lot. I haven't mastered it yet, but I'm getting much better with it. On this build, the B/S and neck are really good, but the top isn't where I want it to be. Maybe next time.
