Well, all I've built until now have been dreads. This is my first attempt at an OM and I must say that I love it!!! It was fun to build and I can't describe the sound very well. It sounds amazing to me!! Right after stringing up it sounds richer than my dreads. This is the OM in Kinkead's book.

All the wood in this baby came from UNCLE BOB. Thanks Mr. Zoot!!


B/S Curly white oak
Top Lutz
All trim and rosette are in bloodwood/ebony. Purfling is
    bloodwood/black fiber.
Schaller tuners with custom bloodwood buttons.
Bridge, headplate, FB are ebony.
Pins are boxwood.


This guitar is a gift for my younger brother whose own guitar was ruined in a fire (lightning strike) two years ago. It is a surprise and I doubt that I can wait till Christmas to give it to him.

Nothing but tru-oil on the neck.

Body was filled with z-poxy (also a first for me), coat of shellac, then 6 coats of tru-oil.

VERY cool OM bro!  You did a great job ad I am sure that your brother will be thrilled.

It really shows that you thought out all the details and everything about this guitar just continues to add to the whole.

If you are comfortable with this how about showing some pics of when you give it to your brother?  Gift guitars are the best of all and I would love to see him when he receives it.

And..... welcome to the OM world!  Should we call it the "O*M" now......

Ron beautiful guitar. i'm glad you posted. I'm planning a curly white oak OM model too. I bought the oak from RC tonewoods a year ago. I wasn't sure if the oak would look good on a guitar and now I see that it can. I am planning on ebony bindng and trim on mine.

Thanks, guys. Much appreciated. I'm not much of a photographer with my little cheapo point and shoot. The color looks different in different shots, but it's a very nice warm brown overall. I didn't want to stain it, but I did use garnet shellac instead of clear.

I'm curious about the Tru Oil finish. Did you buff out the body? If you did buff, how long did you let it cure? I've used it on necks and really like the results. I let it cure for a few days and then lightly polish with 0000 steel wool, but I've never used it on a body.

Wow Ron, you have done yourself proud. I've always thought that quartered white oak would make a nice looking guitar. How it would sound was always the stopper. Now that you have confirmed that aspect I will have to try one myself.

Absolutely gorgeous!  I really love those bloodwood fingerboard markers.  I gotta stash that one away for future use!  Your brother is a very lucky man!

Thank you, Bob. I let it sit for 4 days, I think, then I very lighty used 0000 wool, then hand rubbed with medium and then fine rubbing coumpound.

As I scrolled through the photos, i kept trying to figure out what the back and sides were, and has settled on some sort of ash, then I read what it was.

Oak?

I've seen a lot of oak in my day, but that is some pretty different, and nice, oak.

The guitar needs a smaller OM, red-ish TS or Greven pickguard though. The big black one is out of place with all the red trimmings. It's not too late at all to change it! Heck, i'll give you one to put on if you you'll do the swap.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for the offer on the pickguard. I have a red tortoise and a golden looking tortoise and tried them over and over, but they seemed to make it look too busy.
I'll keep thinking about it, though, thank you.

The oak came from BobC about a year ago.
