SkyHigh,

You will have to understand that we're used to people showing up here asking about wood combinations as if they think there's some sort of magical combination of one wood with another. So when someone such as yourself says...
Anyone building with African Blackwood? I would love to see some pix if you have any.

What top are you guys using?
...our natural response is to make that assumption and then try to educate what we perceive to be an individual who's line of thinking is in error.
Sorry for everyone doing that to you, but you almost asked for it...

So, SkyHigh...are you a builder, or a player? And why the interest in African Blackwood on a guitar?
There's always more than just what folks see on the surface...
Tell us about yourself.
Was that the one I played Tim? After playing one of Tim's double back guitars, I can tell you that they 'ooze' TONE. Beautiful work Tim!

Vince
No Vince, the guitar you played [that looked like Blackwood] was 1940 Braz. The guitar pictured above was displayed and sold at Healdsburg this year.

Don, This top is a 1959 Sitka top. It is the only BW guitar I have built to date but I am anxious to build more.

I spoke with Mario Beaureguard recently and he just completed a ABW guitar with a Cedar top and he stated that it was his best sounding guitar that he has built to date.

Thanks Ken. They sure knew how to harvest this stuff back in 1959. I wish I had more of it as my supply is quickly dwindling.
