Well I must say, and Im sure anyone else who was there would admit, the Vancouver Island Luthiers Guild (1st annual?) Guitars by Hand show was quite a hit!
There were nonstop spectators streaming through the entire time I was there which was quite early until practically closing,,,
There were quite a few exhibitors and the quality of workmanship was incredible I must say and surpassed my expectations by far...the venue was great too the Nanaimo Art Gallery,,, a very well put together event!
I finally was able to meet a couple people from the forum including DanielM and Scott McKee, as well as one of the luthiers I quite admire Robert Anderson, and many others as well!
Unfortunately my wheelchair caster broke just as I was starting to snap pictures so they are a not the most comprehensive, I had trouble really concentrating as the atmosphere was buzzing and I was a little unfocused on only 3 wheels....
There were people trying guitars at every booth and there were scheduled acts performing in the gallery corner at certain times which was pure chaos occasionally,,,
the performers were great though... and they showcased many of the handmade instruments present in an excellent fashion...
I suggest that next year there be a couple centrally located soundproof booths for people to try instruments out in... to generate more sales potential.
Anyhow - I hope that Scott Daniel or others can jump in and comment on the pics as I didnt get everyones names and I dont remember some of the peoples names I did catch....
here we go without any futher ado:

A Martin (Boch?) reso

Summit guitars?

Some of DanielM's beautiful offerings

and again only with the incomparable Robert Anderson behind the booth

more VILG offerings and happy pickers

Thunder P-ird Bass?

Robert Anderson and the Missus,
for my money this small body flame koa B&S wonder was the best sounding guitar of the show!(from what I could hear) Roberts reputation is well deserved, and I must say this little beauty sprang to life when you played it,,, what a great axe!

perhaps a better shot

someone entusiastically showing off of some brazilian rw

and the winner of the Hesh Lookalike award goes to this guy:

jk big guy

hopefully someone took some better photos - and will add on to this post/or will have some names to add to the pics or whatever -
Sorry if some are blurry, out of focus - this will give you some idea of how it was at any rate,
I had a great time and cant wait til next show!
Cheers
Charlie

Great pics, thanks! Wonderful looking show. I specially enjoyed the picture of the kid playing the Irish Bouzouki as a country/rocker!

Hey Charlie;
Thanks for the great pics.
It was good to finally meet you, even if it WAS hard to chat in the middle of the pandemonium!
I think everyone there had a good time... There's already talk of doing another show on Saltspring Island next summer.
See ya at the next meeting.

Cheers,   Dan
