A little Tool Acquisition Syndrome has been happening recently. Here is the last 2 weeks stash...



My new laminate trimmer, which has been doing great work!
?80 worth of carbide downspiral cutters for various tasks.
Good ol' Ibex bending iron
A Veritas Round bottom spoke shave - this thing is ace, I LOVE veritas tools!
An lastly, a flat bottom Lie Nielsen model maker's plane - Another quality tool, which I'm convinced will be worth the money.


All these things make Jammy a happy man

Did you notice that Lee Valley just came out with it's version of the 100, for about 1/2 the price of the Lie Nielsen? (also the 100 1/2, the curved bottom.) These are in the purple line, not the Veritas line.

I wonder how long Robin Lee is going to be able to hold on to his promise not to let prices move from one catalog to the next, with the dollar being in such a hole as it is.

Expensive! I got mine from Classic Hand Tools here in the UK, it was just under ?50. I'm sure you could find one a lot cheaper in the states though!

Jammy, You will love the lie nelsen plane I have one and use it for every thing.It is best at very fine cuts.

I got the stuff from various places.

The Lam trimmer from my local friendly power tool dealer for ?115
The cutters were from www.infinitytools.co.uk .A great online company that were really helpful and quick. I think I'll be using these guys again!
Both the spokeshave and plane were from www.classichandtools.com - a company I've dealt with before (when I bought my other Veritas planes)
And finally the bending iron was from an ebay reseller - it made more sense to buy from the states with the dollar where it is, even with the ?24 import/fees I had to pay!

The Lie Nielsen has indeed performed well with the little testing I've done up to now. It's also benefited from 20 mins on the waterstones too

Since Lee is still charging Canadian customers more than US customers pay, on practically every item in the catalog, he may be able to keep the finances clicking along just fine.
Example: Those planes are $65 US for the pair, $69 Cdn. To put it another way, Canadian customers are paying $71.50 US for the same set of planes American customers get for $65.
This is a fairly mild example- on most items in the catalog, the 'Canadian penalty' is closer to 20%.

i dont know if you have heard but craft supplie have gone into recivership
owing alot of money to varius supliers.

I would be wary about using them these days.

I recieved an email from them recently that they were celebrating their new business relocation!

Are you sure it isn't their Mill, that runs residential courses? I work in a craft college, and times are very tough with course takeup. No-one wants to spend money on learning anymore...

I was about to make an order for their Aliphatic Resin glue- that is equal to the Luthier's Mercantile White glue.

Where did you get the info from?

However, may I reccomend an alternate source for tooling? and I'm sure IninityTools is a great company, but with their pricing, the dollar where it currently is, and the quality of whiteside routerbits from, say, routerbits.com (prices in pounds from infinity tools = prices in dollars at routerbits.com), it just doesn't make any sense to me (twice the price before shipping and taxes, still about a 60-70% markup after shipping and taxes.

I contacted them yeaterday to ask if they had gone into recievership, and they haven't.

In fact I recieved the order I placed with them yesterday a few hours ago...
