I know this was posted here not long ago but my search has come up
unsuccessful. Which west System Epoxy is best for pore filling? And I think I
saw something on different catalysts for different curing times? I promise I
will write it down this time.

West System is just one epoxy brand.   Any other equivalent grade epoxy will work equally well.  West has excellent product line, distribution and customer support.  Read up on the tech literature.

Epoxies use hardener, not catalyst.  Quite different, so the use of the correct term is not just being picky.

West is set up to use 3 different hardeners: fast, slow, and "clear", each will work, the choices are primarily related to your working conditions, and, of course, skill.  I'd recommend not choosing fast only for time issues, its not THAT fast, but take into account your skill level.

Practice on scrap to get your technique worked out!  Measure carefully and mix well, let the air bubbles rise out, and working in dropping temps, not rising, so that the off gassed wood is sucking air and resin into the wood, and not blowing bubbles.

Could someone tell me what it is about the Z-Poxy that makes it superior to the others for pore filling? Is it just the right viscosity or are there other factors involved?

One other aspect is that you can get water white results with West Systems but Z Poxy will always have an amber tone.
