Mayes built one in 40 hours, so that was a two day guitar. No finish though.

Todd, I feel genuinely honored for my term "river guitar" to come into common usage, or at least common enough to be used by you.

Will it be a one-day "assemble" rather than "build"? I would love to participate in something like that. I remember showing my "red" Sabine guitar, and commenting that it was a 2 week build, and getting a lot of comments about how quick that seems. But of course, working evenings and weekends, and the parts being roughed out before the "build" began, puts somewhat of a different slant on the process.

However you time the affair, a quick build to make a river guitar is a worthy endeavor, and usually ends with a guitar that will be enjoyed by many people, because it is so accessable and ready-to-hand.

You could probably speed it up a good bit with RF glue....PVA doesn't seem quite as strong after being RF'd but it sure does set quick (in seconds for thinner glue lines). I still wouldn't use it on a soundboard glue joint...but everything else might be fair game.

I guess the other alternatives would be CA?

With CNC you could speed it up quite a bit as well.

I saw/played an instrument built by R. Brune in a week. He used that quick french polish technique on the last day.

What's RF Glue?

What about the estimate X 2 factor which seems to be the normal end result for me at almost everything?

Some glues (such as Titebond) already have the additive that makes them amenable to RF Gluing. Basically, you put this extra stuff in the glue and when it is struck with radio waves, they excite the molecules which creates heat and sets the glue within seconds or minutes. You can literally glue a couple pieces of wood and then walk them over to the bandsaw and cut them. It still takes a day for the glue to cure out most of the way, but it is a pretty cool way to get stuff together quickly using PVA glues.

Work-Rite Industries sells smaller units that start at around a few thou if I remember right.

RF is old technology...from around the WWII era I believe.

John - was it not the best because it was built in a couple of days, or because it just wasn't the best for other reasons?

I like to be able to fiddle with my tops for a couple of days before I decide they are done.

I don't think it had anything to do with the timeframe, but more of my
preferences... it was just a little to dark for my tastes. I prefer punchy,
woody, responsive guitars. This one sold rather quickly though, and the
owner loves it...
