I am (finally) getting around to getting labels for my instruments. They are being printed on "archival" cotton weave paper.
What would be the best way to attach them? So far, I'm thinking thinned white glue.

If the label is on wood with no secrets behind it, fish glue or hide glue is
great, and I prefer to thin it down. If it's going on a neck block with bolts
behind it, an adhesive like 3m 467 transfer tape or 3m 77 spray adhesive is
more appropriate in my opinion. When removing a label to access neck bolts
it's nice to have it easily reversible with naptha. Or better yet, for a bolt
cover glue the label to a thin board, then attach to the neck block with a thin
VHB adhesive.

I have only used 3M 77 and it has never let me down.  I also tape a piece of plastic bag over the label when pressing it down to keep my finger oils and dirt off it and I leave the plastic cover on it until the finishing is done.

Don’t know why, but that reminds me of something Dan Tyminski says between a couple of songs on an Alison Krauss and Union Station DVD… He is about to introduce “Man of Constant Sorrow” (I think), and he talk about his wife’s reaction when they first saw the movie “Oh Brother…” together, where Dan overdubs the vocals when George Clooney’s character sings. The Tyminskis are watching the movie, the song starts, Dan’s wife’s jaw drops, looks at her husband, and says something like “George Clooney’s body and your voice…honey, that’s my dream!” I thought that was funny!

I have nothing much to add to this discussion, I use fish or PVA glue. Oh, one thing mabe; if you are building and f-hole instrument, it is a good idea to put the label in before you close the instrument…

Thanks Dave but being neat is no prize.........  People like me are very difficult to live with always following others around cleaning up their dirt trails.......

You know, I could get used to it - how'd you fancy lodging in the UK for a while?

On second thoughts, I've worked hard over the years to convince my wife *all* men are naturally untidy oafs using myself as an example. Maybe showing her I'm not a slave to my chromosomes is not such a smart idea...
