I greatly appreciate this, as I've been giving some thought to this exact thing lately. In fact, I've recently gone to Grumpy's site and checked out how he does it...he uses a router bit. One question: for the 3 degree angle, are you tilting the blade, or is the jig on a slant, I can't really tell from the photos.

Again, this is great food for thought, and I appreciate the amount of time it takes to put something like this together. Another one for the archives at some point.

Thanks Todd for the simple and clear tutorial.  I really like the vintage look and aesthetics of the through saddle. 

After spending five minutes to build the jig you could spend the rest of an hour slotting enough bridges to last a year or ten.

Do you or your ears have a preference for either the 3 or 4 degree slot angle?

 

I really appreciate you taking the time to post this for all to see.  Time to order that blade!

I am SO dense...I read that wrong. You meant the degree of the saddle slant, and I thought you meant the tilt of the saddle IN the slot. I'm going back to bed now before I hurt myself.

Good simple, easy to make setup Todd. The flat top tooth pattern is an
important point you made for people to take note of, though on many old
Gibsons you will find the shallow V left from a plain old cross cut blade. Not
that it's always good to mimic flaws in original construction, but it has it's
place in certain restorations.
