Hello everyone,

Last month after many months of research, I decided that I'm ready to start my first acoustic build. Having made quite a few solid body lap slides its time for an acoustic.

This is some Tasmanian Golden Sassafrass that i aquired from a timber mill in Tassie about three years ago. The wood had been air dried at the mill for two years and I have had it stored at home for two years.

The wood was re-sawn for me in March this year.

A month ago I joined the plates using the wedge method.

I had a little problem being guilty of using too much Titebond.  I have a healthy respect of how hard that stuff is now having to remove a lot of glue residue from the plates. Anyway, live and learn.  It was my first encounter with Titebond and also my first with a cabinet scraper. Not as hard as I thought it would be to use a scraper. Plates are nice and clean now.

My mould is 3/4 finished and the gobar deck is built.

Looking good so far - keep the pictures coming. Are you doing your own design or building to a plan?

Thanks David for your encouragement. I'm using the MIMF weiss plan.

Todd, thank you for your support also. For my first build there will be no bindings or rosette. I will be happy if it holds together and sounds ok!!! It is a nice piece of wood so I hope I can do it some justice. Steady as she goes!!!!

It is probably profane to wish so early to see that wood with finish on it, so I will just say "looks great so far!" Keep us updated!

Thanks Steve for your diplomatic choice of words there regard finish. I know that I am very much a beginner here!!! Unfortunately I live in the tropics with the wet season about to start. Humidity levels here are very high right now until April next year. By April I will be ready to do all the gluing jobs and apply finish. So as the old saying goes, "the proof is in the pudding". Thanks for your encouragement and I will keep you all updated with pics.
