Sometime this month I'm going to place an order with Gurian and thought I'd see if there was interest in making it a group buy. I thought people would be particularly interested in bridge pins after the recent discussion.

Their minimum order is $200, and they sell bridge pins by the gross (144) or half gross (72). These are the
prices per gross.

I'll be getting two purfling designs and would like to know if anyone wants to split them up with me. There are definitely enough to do that. It could be a good chance to get some of your own if there's a layup you've been wanting that falls under the $200 minimum. You have to order by the layup, so no partial layups. You can figure out how many are in a layup by checking their purfling designer. If someone wants to split mine with me, I'm ordering some variation of the following (not totally sure on the layer thicknesses)

black/red/black, .010"/.015"/.010" @ 34.5" long & .060" wide (tall).
- 85 strips per layup @ $.73 per strip

rosewood/pear/rosewood, .024"/.024"/.024" @ 34.5" long & .060" wide (tall).
- 87 strips per layup @ $.94 per strip
- This is the design I'm not sure about. I want a value darker than maple that won't get lost b/w rosewood.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

Count me in. I'm interested in a 1/2 gross of ebony bridge pins and 1/2 gross of rosewood bridge pins.

James I would be interested in a half gross of ebony bridge pins (plain, no dot). Anyone want to get some end pins as well (ebony), I'd only need a dozen myself and if Michael will only sell them in the 1/2 gross we'd need 6 people for that. (is that ok James?)

I would also be interested in some of the first purfling scheme, a dozen strips.

James, I had posted that question in another thread, and had 3 responses. I have been told the Gurian web pricing is not up to date, and that their standard bridge pins are slotted - I'm waiting for an answer from them on that.

Anyway, I am interested in this one way or another, I'll keep in touch.

I would be interested in some of those rosewood/pear/rosewood purfs.

How many will you have?

Rod, I'm in for some of the plain ebony bridge and end pins as well. I
didn't see a price for the end pins, but I'll pick up the other half gross of
the bridge pins.

David, today is the day I give myself off from school work and sub-
teaching, so I'll give them a call to find out about pricing and the bridge
pins.

Brock, I'm not sure how many layups to order. Someone else PM'd me
asking for some. I'd like at least half of a layup, which would give me
enough for 12 guitars. I'm flexible on the numbers.

Cool. I'm glad there's interest!

Why don't you guys put down how many strips of which purfling you'd
like. It will be easier to come up with numbers that way.

I'd be interested in 1/4 gross ebony bride pins and 1/4 gross rosewood bridge pins and 12 strips of RW/P/RW and maybe the same amount of some herringbone.

Thanks, Let me know if we should do this side band.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Gurian.

Unslotted 3 degree bridge pins are about 10% more than the current
prices on the website for slotted pins.

The black/red/black is $.082 per strip.

The rosewood/pear/rosewood is $1.03 per strip. They can sand each
layer to .020" rather than the .024" listed, which I would prefer.

They're also able to do cherry. Does anyone know if cherry and/or pear
look golden under finish? Or do they go towards the tans and browns?

James:

I'm interested in 3-degree unslotted pins too, ebony. What is the price of a quarter gross of pins? That's what I'd be interested in. Thanks.

Bill

I'm interested in some B/Red/B purflings. A dozen or two would be ideal, but I can buy more if need be.

I would also like a dozen rosewood/pear/rosewood or rosewood/cherry/rosewood.

Here's a picture of cherry binding next to wenge to give you some idea:

I'd also be in for some end pins besides the 1/2 gross each of the un-slotted ebony and rosewood pins that I first posted about.

Would anyone like to split a half gross of ebony unslotted
3*, with white mop dots ?? That would be 36 pins each - enough for 6 guitars @ about $ 22.oo bucks. Sounds good to me!

Cool. Keep posting what you'd like. I'll finalize things in a week, at which
time I'll add up how many which items are being requested and figure out
how many layups and grosses of each need to be ordered in order to get
everyone what they want.

James, I'm interested in:

1/2 gross 3 degree unslotted ebony bridge pins
1/2 gross 3 degree unslotted roseweood bridge pins
1/2 gross 3 degree unslotted cocobolo bridge pins

1 layup of black fiber purfling, .08x.03x34.5"
1 layup of white fiber purfling, .08x.03x34.5"

If anyone wants to split the purfling with me but make it 64" in length I would prefer that.

...and yes they make cocobolo pins, the price is $47.41/gross.

If there's anything I can do to help with the workload let me know.

I would like to go in for some of the black/red/black purfling. I would take
as much as you want to share from the layup. I would prefer the 64" length,
but would be happy with the standard.

Thanks!
