I think I may have to sell my two Brazilian Rosewood sets that are perfectly quartered straight grain and have that old red look. And are big enough to do dreadnoughts. I need a new car. If anybody's interested in these sets, start bidding!
I have some of that too!

I think I once saw Bill Nye the Science Guy teach about the Coriolis effect as being the truth.

What greater proof do we need?!

From Wikipedia:

A misconception in popular culture is that the Coriolis effect determines the direction in which bathtubs or toilets drain, such that water always drains in one direction in the Northern Hemisphere, and in the other direction in the Southern Hemisphere. This urban legend has been perpetuated by several television programs, including an episode of The Simpsons and The X-Files[1]. In addition, several science broadcasts and publications (including at least one college-level physics textbook) have made this incorrect statement.[2]

Many people who misunderstand the Coriolis effect compound their misunderstanding by claiming that drain water spins clockwise north of the equator and counterclockwise south of it, which is reversed from direction of spin that would result from the Coriolis force if it were a determining factor. In addition, the Coriolis effect is a few orders of magnitude smaller than various random influences on drain direction, such as the geometry of the sink, toilet, or tub, and the direction in which water was initially added to it. Most toilets flush in only one direction, because the toilet water flows into the bowl at an angle[3]. If water shot into the basin from the opposite direction, the water would spin in the opposite direction[4].

I was reading this thread and thought: What if you released the water into the bowl from the opposite angle?

The airplane is not turning with the earth, and it's interior is quite isolated
from any coriolis effect.

But, this airplane example segues beautifully in to another great myth
taught for years.

Sorry, but the Bernoulli principle is not the primary cause of lift in
airplanes..........

Hey Hesh! I'll bet you that set of rosewood that I can turn a discussion
about something like binding adhesives in to a heated argument about
the digestive system of a common earthworm in less than four posts!

But I digress....

All my searchings all point back to that one particular guy who said it's all bogus.
Now my question is, what if he's wrong, or just made that up?
What if he just wanted to publish some paper that throws the whole theory into a heated discussion on public internet discussions groups?
Now what if he is then taking all the personal information that he could find about those folks who are discussing it online, and will at some point publish a list of folks he wants to publicly call a bunch of morons for arguing about it?

Well, there's just too much risk of that, so I'm not going to debate it any longer. I give up. He wins.

Great Todd, I'm betting you probably have a very good critical mind when
looking at research and engineering. So, what are your thoughts on the
study that claimed the Hummer as more environmentally friendly than the
Prius?

And do you think that rosewood is set at a fair price?

Man, what a great waste of time. I'm going to keep this thread rolling
through November, or until Lance puts me on suspension.

Part of the reason I put that set up there at an over-the-top price was just for the fun of it, as you guys have probably figured out by now. I get feedback all the time from folks who want to know if that's the real price of it. I have to let them off the hook pretty quickly or they might think I'm actually selling wood for a profit.

Sometimes you have to laugh at the absurdities of life....
and have a little fun with it as you go.

Now what about that Hummer/Prius comparison?

They don't. They float. It's the unslotted pins that go down the drain.

Good one Lance...
Rumor has it that Hesh's Hendrix poster is up for sale for $47,500. Figures the guy would find a way to pay for that zoot...

Filippo
That is not a Hendrix poster. It is actually Hendrix. Hendrix had a stipulation in his will that instead of being buried he would be "pressed" like the beautiful flower that he is. How it ended up in Hesh's living room is a mystery, however.

Actually, after years of extensive testing I'm still not entirely sure, but it
seems to be at least partly dependent on whether they are 3 degrees or 5.

Okay, I'm done too.
