I understand that because of the battery
manufacturing, recycling, and replacement at least once in 100,000
miles, maybe twice, the Hummer, H3 has a smaller "carbon footprint"
than the Prius.
This is one of the best examples of modern journalism and blogging at
it's finest. Say it or type it enough times and people will believe it's true.
One of the newer urban myths that has been drastically busted so many
times, and all started from one rogue biased "report" that was
immediately blasted by anyone with a brain as based on "faulty methods
of analysis, untenable assumptions, selective use and presentation of
data, and a complete lack of peer review."

Sorry, but environment and politics aside, I put that one in the same
category as "the toilet swirls the opposite way on the other side of the
equator". They both keep on going.....

I dont care about Hummers, Priuses, or which way the toilet flushes.....

I just want to put dibbs on the pink vacuum cleaner Hesh has... that thing is so powerful that the downstairs cat has to wear a lead weight just to keep from getting sucked up when he turns it on....besides, it does a heck of a job keeping the shop clean too!

mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine mine!!

Absolutely right, when manufacturing and recycling are taken into account the especially for the two sets of batteries, the Prius has a much larger carbon footprint than many standard cars. The car that came top of the efficiency list in the lifetime of the vehicle was the Jeep Wrangler! Low tech is cheaper and more easily made and recycled. It's always best to look at the whole picture.

I see that BRW can only be shipped inside the USA. Now that's a pity I'd have offered the round $100k for it, but oh well never mind. Guess I'll just have to stick with boring old mahogany, it's yours Hesh.

David, wait until you see this BRW sale make the newspapers as a factual sale and this will become another urban legend too.

Colin - I'm sure that Don could find a "special" set of mahogany for you if he looked around.

Don:

Send my wood to the usual address. However, I was just informed that I was "somehow" to receive a large inheritance from the recently deceased President of Eritria. I didn't even know we were related!!!! Apparently all I have to do to received my 2.2 million dollars is send them $10,000 asap, by certified money order. You can imagine my astonishment.

So, as soon as the inheritance comes in, the wood is mine, AND, I'll throw in a few thousand dollars as a bonus for your patience. Thanks greatly.

Bill

Without a doubt.  I believe everything I read on the internet and receive in my email.  You wouldn't believe the results of some of these fine products.

I think I may have to sell my two Brazilian Rosewood sets that are perfectly quartered straight grain and have that old red look. And are big enough to do dreadnoughts. I need a new car. If anybody's interested in these sets, start bidding!

Water does go down a drain the opposite way in the southern hemisphere. It's due to the Coriolis force.

Or so we were taught in school (along with many other myths).

Coriolis

It's such a widely taught and believed myth that I believe Ira Flatow (NPR's
Science Friday host) included a chapter about this one in his new book.

If a toilet bowl were 30 miles in diameter and took a few weeks to drain, you
may see it start to spin, slightly. For a regular bowl, the hemisphere has
nothing to do with direction. Pure myth, occasionally included in text books.

I think I once saw Bill Nye the Science Guy teach about the Coriolis effect as being the truth.

What greater proof do we need?!
