I'm tap tuning a tenor uke.  Currently I have a slightly sharp G and I should have a G#.  Does taking more material off raise the pitch or lower it?

How did you figure out your note? By ear? Can a guitar tuner help with this?

Yes, I used a guitar tuner.  held the soundhole near the pickup of the tuner and tapped near the bridge location.  Don't know if this is the correct procedure.
