OK, here is my progress to date. It's more like 4.5 or 5 months... but this is what I've done in my spare time. I am intentionally keeping any close up shots far away from all of you! 














That's it as of last night! Need to trim the excess off the back and get that top on now!! It's starting to feel a bit more like a guitar and less like an ugly, expensive birdhouse.

I'm with Todd, looks great to me. I've finished my second and your rosette is already better than what I've tried. The boat looks terrific, and is neat as it can be.

For spare time building, I'd say you're cruising! Great work.

I've been workin on my first for about a year and a few months. I guess its all those jigs you have to build as you do the first one. I should be able to build the second in about 3 weeks

No cats would be safe in Tacoma if such desecration ever occurred.

I am definitely enjoying the process so far - it's a relaxing project when I'm not staring at it scratching my head on what to do next or what to do to fix whatever anti-progression (my word for "whoops") I just made.

Just take your time and enjoy the progress. It's looking great!!!

I only get a few hours a week to work on my guitar- lots of little hungry mouths to feed, and all the rest. At this stage, if I rushed, my guitars will end up as worse as my first!!!

You are screaming along.  I have spent the last month just working on my rosette.

Very nice work Christian.

I think (I'm hoping at least) that the first guitar usually takes a lot longer than the rest. I think once we get the hang of making a guitar, the process will be a lot faster.

Hang in there. It will all be worth it in the end.

Michael - I am planning on doing the mortise and tenon / bolt-on neck. I started this project with Cumpiano's book (which I still regularly turn to), but I have taken a lot from Jonathan Kinkade's book as well. 

I have a rough cut laminated neck-blank from RC Tonewoods (haven't started the neck part at all yet) - I heard somewhere that the neck/fingerboard accounts for nearly half the total build time. Does that jive with everyone's experience too? I only ask because I'd like to finish this in the next 6 months if possible without sacrificing quality. What do you guys think?

I'm building my first and next month will be a year for me. I got the back braced, and am currently working on the top. Maybe by this time next year I'll have it french polished

Im about at the same amount of time for mine. About the same place. Half the time was jigging and rejigging, and redoing mistakes though. I dont think the neck would take 6 months to carve. Id say 4 hours for basic rough in, and 4 more for finnish sanding and 4 more for the heck of it. Stewimac will be doing my fretboard slotting the first dozen times I imagine, so thats a few weeks right there.
