My wife thinks I'm a bit weird and obsessive (part of being a Professor is being slightly eccentric), but I think it's normal behaviour.

The other day I had a spare hour or two, so I went to my wood store and decided to reorganise it. I took all of my wood and rearranged it by function in alphabetical order. Being a scientist I of course had to arrange them alphabetically by their binomial. so Swietenia macrophylla is stacked to the left of Swietenia mahogani.

What I did discover is that I have enough wood, at my current rate of building to last until I'm 130 or so years old. So guess what I did? I got straight on the phone to David Dyke's and ordered some more!

Now I think that's perfectly normal behaviour, sfter all, I don't know what wood will still be available when I'm 135.

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone here. I think there really should be a balance with these things.... and having "enough wood until you're 130".... I think that is a bit overboard.

I tell you what though; for a small fee I can help you overcome this addiction. Not only will I cure you for good.... but I'll get that stash down to about 70 or 80 years. Why don't I just PM you my shipping address and we can start the healing process. It's for the best.

That voracious hunger for more wood regardless of current stocks is unrelenting. I don't know if it's worse that GAS.

It doesn't help either when your spouse encourages it too. I asked the other day whether we need to watch out for a shed on freecycle to store any wood I get in the future...

Colin, your thread has only served to give me the desire to imrpove my collection so that it covers more than 3/26ths of the alphabet!

But I am a little confused, what other action could one be expected to take in order to celebrate the completion of a job well done other than to reward one's self by ordering more wood???
