Sorry Guys,

The book was sent a couple of days ago during the first lunch break I've had in about a month - the good news is that I've lost about 5 kilos (no kidding). Between working 12 hour days during the week and working even longer hours on the weekend (house reno), I simply haven't had the time to get to the post office. I guess I should have asked the missus to look after it for me.

It should be there by now, I sent it express post, so I've got a tracking number for it - at work, I'm off with the flu today. Gonna go to the docs, and then go get a hair cut - haven't had time for one of those either. Then actually spend some time making guitars.

Funny that Botany Bay and Cook should come up in this thread. I grew up on the southern shore of Botany Bay, and lived less than a mile from where Cook landed.

Wow, Paul I hope life is slowing down for you Bro. I sure hope you get well soon too.

Hey, no worries about the book, it's all part of the journey man. Glad it's moving on to the west coast.

Kim & Tim will hopefully get through it in a month or so.

Anyway, get better Paul and thanks again for your contribution to a cool community builder.

Hey, How did you like it?

Thanks buddy, I guess I've worked myself into the ground a bit lately. I'm taking a couple days to put my feet up and hang out with my family. Though the RH is dropping now that the rain stopped, so this weekend might be time to brace the couple of tops and backs that I'm working on - been waiting for the drop and the time for weeks. Couldn't do it today, went out to the workshop but started seeing spots and getting light headed. Not the time to crank up the power tools.

I thought the book was a good read, but I was surprised that Clapton himself didn't have much of a part to play, nor were there any comment on what he thought of it.

One thing that did make me think was the way that Henderson apparently shapes his necks. Asymetrical, the way I read it was that the "center line/high point" of the back of the neck shifts from being a tad closer to the Low E string near the nut, to being slightly closer to the high E string near the body. Sounds like it might make a guitar easier to play. Anyone else make em this way?

Great, I believe the book is soon due to cross the oceans all the way up to Trondheim, Norway. Yahooo!

Paul, I can relate. I have a house reno' on my hands as well, plus a stressful day job and 3 little kids and I try to cram some guitar building time in there as well. It is hard to keep up the enthusiasm in all these fields if you get too burned out. I am glad I don’t have any real deadlines as far as the guitar building goes now; that would take the joy out of even my shop time. Now it works as a stress reliever, the one place I can really concentrate and get quality work done it seems. At times I feel it is the only thing that keeps me sane.

I know what you mean Arnt. Between house, wife, children, and day job, guitar making is the only facet of my life were I have total say in what goes on (notice I didn't say total control). Everything else involves some form of compromise.

Heres what happened....a bunch of baddies and goodies left the good old UK in ships bound for the Antipodes. The goodies ended up in New Zealand and the baddies ended up in Australia

Well, I missed this one.

Thanks Tim, hope you enjoyed it.

Does Kim have it now? He's a speed reader I hear so it may be onto Arnt by know

Rod,

The book is still safe with Tim, I was due to pick it up yesterday but Tim had to be elsewhere so I will take the drive up next Friday to pick it up as I have to see him anyhow.

Cheers

Kim

Hi Kim, take your time with the book. I'll be in Croatia until the biginning of August so I won't be able to open any mail sent to my home address until then.

Well,

The book is finally with me, picked it up from Tim's yesterday arvo. How's Bob Connor's form, slipped $20 bucks in with the package to help with shipping over to Arnt in Norway. What a great bloke, thanks Bob .

Cheers

Kim

Cool, last leg of the Auzi tour than on to the Norseman

Bob, your a great guy for helping with the cost to get it out of the country

Very cool indeed. Not bad really, the book was shipped out from me on January 30th and Kim will be the 7th reader in just under 7 months. At this rate, I should get the book back before my 5 year old hits high school (just kidding)

Here are some links to the previous threads about the book.

The initial idea

Last chance

On its way

There is some good reading in these threads, helps keep me remembering how great this place is.

Hey JJ, reading through the "Last chance" thread you made some predictions. Care to revise any of them?
Hey JJ, reading through the "Last chance" thread you made some predictions. Care to revise any of them?
Below is the original prediction:

Looking forward to the book odyssey around the globe. I was just thinking...32 readers x 2 weeks average time with each reader = 64 weeks until Rod publishes the comments.

By that time, I make the following predictions:
...Rod will have finished 2 graduate degrees
...Hesh will have completed 15 more guitars
...Serge will have achieved "Fossilized Walrus Ivory" status with 25,000 posts
...Colin will have cornered the world market on Mahogany
...Zootman will buy out the houses on each side next to him and turned them into Zoot caves.
...The Don will come out of retirement and resume building guitars
...Anthony will have completed his next Archtop
...Alain will have been cited by the Canadian government for generating too much dust from his new drum sander.
...OLF will have 3000 members and a library!
...The OLF #1 & #2 guitars will finally be completed!
...And finally...Allen St. John will release his followup book, "Clapton's Guitar's Neck Re-Set"

The only one I might reconsider is our old friend Serge's post total...I miss him.

BTW...I'm looking forward to the book passing through my town one of these days! Still a great project Rod...thanks for starting this and more importantly, for followung up on its progress.

OK, Arnt should be heading back from Croatia by now so I will pack up the book and send it off to Norway this coming Monday, so I would imagine that the pages will be soaking up some of that Norwegian BBQ sheepshead smoke in about 8 to 10 days after that.

I enjoyed the read and must try boiling a 14lb turkey in a 5 gallon drum of oil over an open flame outside my workshop full of tonewood sometime, seems to me like a right manly thing to do and at just 3 min a pound it's on the table in no time to boot

Cheers

Hi Kim, indeed I am back! Croatia was HOT, dry and there were forest fires all over the place, but what a beautiful place. +40C is too much for a northern boy though, not to mention my to youngest who is only 1 year old, so cool old Norway feels good now. Actually we are having a nice few summer days right now, and the heat and dehumidifier was turned off in the shop while I was away so I had 65% humidity there when I came back; a new record high for me!

I'm firing up the the old barbecue to celebrate the arrival of the book with some nice and juicy smalahove, can't wait. Hopefully the smell will still linger by the time it heads back to Rod, for sure the grease marks will still be there!

Arnt, I want to see some pics of that book and BBQ, maybe a beer or two in the pic as well.

No pun intended right
