Well, a bass cover over a track. I ALWAYS listen to the bass lines in rock and classical music. Most music today is very boring, VERY boring. Try to find a bass line, or harmony, or even good drum or guitar playing.

Greg Lake had a very clean sound, especially compared to a contemporary great, Chris Squire.

It looks like a lot of fun to play. They don't make much music like that anymore.

My father of all people turned me on to ELP and PFM. This would’ve been around 1972. I still listen to both of them regularly. I know the topic is ‘bass lines’ but have you heard Rachel Flowers? She covers a good portion of the ELP catalog - she plays by ear - cuz she’s blind…

Yes the Rachel Flowers covers with a remote "cast" are pretty good. I got hooked on this style of music after a friend played his brothers King Crimson album in the summer of 1970. Then Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull. There are some that still play like this, like Spock's Beard.

Never heard of Premiata Forneria Marconi. Could be a rabbit hole?

Before listening to the bass line I watched this. Starts with a bass line, and then one riff after another. Progressive rock is like a good symphony. I know the Shostakovich pretty much note to note. Some are like that. Some aren't. I heard Tarkus one time at a friends house, in the background. I heard it a few years ago, and could sing along.

Speaking of King Crimson, last month my wife and I got to see Tony Levin who as you know has been collaborating with Peter Gabriel for the last 40+ years - great show btw!

King Crimson, ELP, PFM, Yes... That is a blast from the past.

I am in the process of building a 28" scale bass and just recently ran across this vid.

He put a Wammy bar on this bass.
