Hi folks, I recently came across a back and side set for Wenge. I am considering Lutz spruce for a top but I am open to other options. Anyone have experience with a good tonal match? Thanks. As always, I look forward to your replies.

Imo wenge is a very good tonewood if a little difficult to work. I’ve made a few guitars from it with spruce tops and been happy.
Interestingly enough I did make one w a sinker cedar top and I really liked the tone. I won’t attempt to explain tone, other than say it was a unique sound with lots of favorable overtones imo . This was also a smaller body size w a sound port

I've built with Wenge and used a Lutz, Sitka and Redwood. I liked all three. Keep in mind these were Ukuleles

I have paired wengé with cedar, which resulted in arguably my best guitar yet. I also did a spruce/cedar doubletop with wengé which was very nice. Both were classicals.

It hardly matters to us amateur builders. Do the best job possible on the soundboard and build the rest of the body well. We're in no position to predict body outcomes. It' wont work well to try to let the tail wag the dog

My last Wenge , I used a curly redwood top ! Sounded great ! But thicknesses & size of the
guitar make all the difference.
I use a modified X bracing
