The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I appreciate the encouragement. My current struggle is still neck carving and fretwork.
It’s not BAD, but it’s not what I want.

I did experiment some w the bracing and feel like I got a very good result. The guitar sounds super warm and is responsive.

The back I braced w cedar. The tone bar is cedar as well as the finger braces.

Lathe rest is spruce as usual.

The x is moved up some “forward”

I’m happy with the outcome, and I’m looking forward to the next one with specifics to research and work on
