Saw this earier today:

I haven't checked mine yet, but knowing that a large number of forum members use dehumidifiers in their shops, I thought I'd post this. Here's a link to a page where you can see whether yours is one of the affected units:

Thanks for the alert Dave. I just bought a newer one that luckily isn't on the list.

When I bought my first one 5 or 6 years ago I remember a recall notice on a bunch of different makes at that time too.

You'd think after recurring problems like this they would have found and corrected the issues by now. Even though this notice is for machines built 2017 or earlier.

As a precaution I roll mine out in the center of the shop on a concrete floor and 3-4 feet away from anything combustible just as an added precaution.

The one I just replaced was a 70 qt unit by Frigidaire. It started icing up and apparently not going through the defrost cycle. I noticed I couldn't get the air filter out OR the collection drawer even though it was discharging to a hose and a floor drain. Knowing the fire danger problems with dehumidifiers, the presence of any issues means time for replacement in my shop.

On the good side, the newer one seems to work faster and better than the old one ever did. It is a Haier I got from Sears.

Fortunately mine isn't on the list either but the model number differs by only a little. Makes me wonder.

I had a whirlpool unit recalled several years ago. They told me to cut the plug off the power cord and send it to them and they sent me a check for $50. It cost me $10 to recycle it. It was already a few years old so I didn't shed any tears over it. I wonder if any of these companies will offer compensation?

Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately the Frigidaire I bought in 2020 is not on the list (replaced the Frigidaire I bought in 2013 - yes it really lasted that long!).

I have two GE units that are not on the list.

Thanks for the heads up!

Mine weren't on the list either. I had two Frigidaire units recalled back in 2017. I had to cut off the cords and write recalled or something like that in sharpie on the units. I sent a picture of each to the recall center. These were old dehumidifiers. About a week later, I received two brand new units via UPS. Pretty sweet actually, and beats the heck out of burning the house down.

Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately I am not on the list too.

So if I understand this right there is one large parent company that makes these machines and then a whole bunch of name brand slap their decals on them and sell them.... <rolleyes> There's yer problem.

Costco sent me an email but that Danby dehumidifier was a long time ago. I never usually buy an extended warranty but it makes sense for the 70 pint units I have been using. For a while there before they changed the model I was going through one Frigidaire every one or two years! They seem to have straightened that out now (touch wood)
