I'm close to the final assembly of an ABG I'm building for one of the grandkids. Want to know any recommendations for amplification for it. I've got a MiniFlex II I could use but want to know if there is something else that would be better and easier to install. It's a 4 string, 34" scale, pinless bridge, J200 style body, WRC over Bocote.

We've found that the standard K&K Pure works well in ABGs which are not overbuilt.

With a four string bass, do you use one with 2 or 3 piezos? This one: https://kksound.com/products/purebass.php, or this one: https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Mini-Acoust ... B000P5OULA? idunno

Thanks for the suggestion.

There is little difference that we see between the standard guitar Pure and the larger diameter bass Pures, but for a more heavily built ABG (closer to what is seen in factory-built instruments), the Bass Pure ensures higher output. We recommend an off-board preamp for all Pures - the Baggs Para Acoustic DI and the K&K Pure XLR both work well, but there are several others worth a look.

You might want to have a look at the pickup offerings from JJB Electronics. Excellent product at great prices.

I went with the JJB Artist Series P-220 with volume control and their J2 Preamp...it was within my price point and I'm interested to see how it sounds. I've got plenty of time 'cause his birthday isn't until October, so maybe I'll have time to try the Miniflex too.

I tried a JJB once. Looked just like a K&K, but seemed like it had about half the output. Tried getting in touch with them a couple of times, but never got a response. Went back to K&K. Some folks have had great experiences with the JJB, but I got turned off on my first try.
