For those who inlay dots as position markers on the face of the fretboard (not side dots), what diameter do you use? Thanks in advance.

For the face of the fretboard I use 1/4". Makes it trivial to install them with a 1/4" brad point bit.

6mm or 1/4 inch however you want to call them for pearl and 5mm for abalone.no particular rationale other than they were what was available and were big enough but not too big.

If it is a 2 dot area I use 5mm
I feel it’s less crowded that way

Right now I’m doing a Gibson sort of build and using 7mm

Like Steve, I prefer smallish dots and typically go with 5/32" or 3/16" sizes.
