I actually built this last year and proceeded to take it to guitar camp (PSGW.org). During said camp a ham fisted idiot put several nicks around the soundhole and a couple dings in the top. It only took him about 20 seconds to do. Impressive I thought! The guitar sat on a shelf in the shop for the last 15 months until I cooled down enough to take it apart and repair the damage. What do they say "Drive it like you stole it" or in the case of a guitar "Play it like you own it".

Anyway, I'm better now..

Wenge is a great guitar wood! A bit of a bugger to pore fill but it sounds wonderful!

And a pretty nice set of EIR it is too. Love the silking on the top too. Nice bridge arrangement for the slanted position.
Come to think of it, that's a dang sweet guitar all round, not surprised it took you 15 months to chill somewhat.

Ham fisted idiots should be weeded out before camps, named and shamed if discovered, belt buckles confiscated and bunches of keys surrendered before entry.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

That is a beauty Michael. I have been putting on transparent pickguards in case one of those guys does that to mine. You can barely see them, but they offer some protection; and they can be easily removed...

I was able to pull the pick guard and the bridge, take the top back to nearly bare wood and reshoot it. One of the advantages of a full bolt-on neck. The setup took nothing. After gluing the bridge back on, I reamed the pin holes to clear any glue and reinstalled the nut and saddle, strung it up, done! 5/64 and 3/64 at the octave...perfect!

Guitar + Camp = take a beat up old Giannini with a previously bondo-ed crack in the side. If they don't have a belt buckle or keys the idiots can find a pine tree to smack it against. I like to bring a guitar to campfires I don't have to fret about and can relax and enjoy myself, and if it winds up in the campfire I haven't lost too much.
