Today I completed the set-up, and my first has finally become playable. I feel like I've done something! Yes, it has been a long road, I am one of those guys you talk about who take years to finish one. But I did finish it, and that is what is important. Yes I still have some adjusting to do, I figure I'll play it a week or two and let it settle in before I make any more adjustments to the action and intonation. But for today, I am a happy guy!

Now for the details:

Antes Parlor
Spruce top
Quilted Ash back, sides, and neck
Zircote head stock veneer, fret board, bridge
Ebony binding
Abalone marker dots
Bloodwood rosette
Finish is hand rubbed shellac over tons of bad off the shelf plastic stuff I couldn't get all off first

And I can't say thank you enough to this forum, and all the help I've gotten. I never would have made it without all the assistance you were all so willing to give. So thanks again!

Very nice #1. I love seeing first guitar posts because I think back to mine 25+ years ago now. I still have my #1 and actually play it regularly. But oh my what a cosmetic disaster my #1 was, it's even worse now. But I built it! And actually it sounds and plays really quite well. I would not still be playing it if it didn't. So congrats and I hope it gives you a life time of enjoyment.

Looks great! I like the look of the quilt on the neck carved round. It is wonderful playing something you made for the first time isn't it?

Beautiful first guitar. Nice wood choices. Have fun with it.

My first guitar is a troll by my current standards and has a nice top crack (I had yet to appreciate wood movement and the need for strict humidity control), but it’s easily my favorite. Sounds fantastic and I feel zero guilt road tripping with it and adding further “character.”

Great looking guitar and congratulations on getting it to completion! Nice clean work. I really like the ash neck. What does the bridge look like?

I really like the fact that you used Ash for the back and sides. Widely misunderstood wood much like White oak.

Very nice for your first! Excellent work

Thanks! The official label - yeah, I was very optimistic when I started this project. Olen Instrument Co. is the name I use for the dulcimers, bones, and spoons I make. I figured by now I would have completed at least 6, if not 8 or 10. Let's just say the learning curve for me was long and steep! But on the plus side, I now have LOTS of tools, jigs, and hard earned knowledge of what NOT to do!
