Hi folks!
In the last few weeks I have been asked by several people how to
sign up for the OLF classifieds section. I admit, its a little cumbersome so I am
going to post a step by step here.

There are 5 simple steps.

Step 1
Click on either of the classifieds banners found above on the forum header.
I circled them in RED below to show what they look like.

Step 2 Click HERE

Step3
Click (NEW SUBSCRIPTION)

Step 4 Click (GO)

You will be directed to a Paypal page. Complete and submit and you are DONE!
Attachment:

You will now automatically have access to the classifieds section which can be found in the
Luthiers Forum board index page.

Thanks!
Lance

To my knowledge, I've never received such an email. And I want to support this site. My suggestion would be to cut off acsess to classifieds as a sure reminder. Wouldn't offend mean the least. Then I'dknow for sure to get it taken care of. Or, fix the email thing, or, send PMs (much better idea)

I have always received emails in a timely fashion before my subscription was up.

Good to know Bob. The classifieds program was a custom made add on to the phpBB forum software.
Its always been a little glitchy. I have been able to keep up with it though just by going in to the back end of the forum and adding it to a user if its not automatically added. Why some don't get the email notice I am not sure. A guess might have something to do with the email address for either the User OLF email and or paypal email. Just a guess tho.

Here is a dumb question. I just signed up in the classified section and when I looked through it I didn't see any guitars for sale, just builders stuff.. Am I missing something?

Luthiers = stringed instrument makers/repairers.

Seems like a reasonable question. Do people sell some of the guitars that they build?

Description of this section includes
Quote:
for members to find great deals or sell items that are no longer needed

Cant recall ever seeing any finished guitars advertised in the classifieds.
Occasionally some part built, unfinished/abandoned projects.
Rarely, if ever, heard of luthiers buying newly finished guitars - most couldn't afford to!
I hate to remind you, and its probably not fair, we have probably all been a bit hasty and not read something properly before jumping the gun. but was it not you who said "Here is a dumb question"

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
