Hey fellas, I put together a magnetic sensor that works very similar to the Magic Probe. I put up a video of it's operation. Instead of describing everything here, I'll just point you to the thread over at the MandolinCafe forums. Video included.

It's accurate, and it works. It still cost me $100 to make, but at least I got the knowledge to build it now, and could even refine it more for my own use.

That is fascinating! I would love to build one for my own use. I'm not a techie. So, anything you have or can point me to will be most helpful.

If you go to the link posted on the first message from the Mandolincafe forums, you will see a link to the Maestro forums. Mike Molnar there tells how to put it together. The only thing I did different was add a 1/2" regular refrigerator magnet to it. Mike Molnar apparently thought the device was too "quirky", and it is, unless you use the 1/2 magnet that I added to it. It's very stable. I show how it all goes together in the video. You need the Vernier magnetic sensor, and the Go! Link USB interface from Vernier also. The software download is called Logger Lite from Vernier site and it is free.

I you get the parts I can help ya put it together.

Put up a couple more videos, one showing a smaller probe for easier control and the second shows how to calibrate it.

Did anyone have another way of doing it this or maybe a source to get vernier sensor and go link cheap?
