Just got the switch and control cavity covers made and installed today, so it was time for some "glamor shots".

First off, thanks to Robbie_McD for his build thread, which is what got me interested in making one of these. And also for answering all my questions. Thanks Rob!

I also want to thank ExNihilo for his top carve map, and John Catto for his plans. And Frank Montag for his cool guitar editor.

Now, the specs:

Top is curly maple that I got pretty cheap on ebay. There is a knot right at the edge inside the cutaway, and there's no figure near the edge in some places. But the burst covers all that up, so I'm happy. [:Y:]

The body and neck are hog from Menards. Headstock veneer and fretboard are ebony. Inlays are plastic. This was my first time doing any inlay work (besides rosettes) and I didn't want to practice on real pearl. It went pretty well.

The finish is nitro lacquer over a tobacco burst.

Pickups are Golden Age Parsons Street humbuckers from Stew-Mac. Alnico 5 magnets.

OMG that is intensely cool!!!
I love everything about it, well executed!
One question - what did you do for binding (if any)?
In the one shot it almost looks like a black binding on the side, unless that is a spectacular burst effect - blending the top into the side...
What finish did you use? Sure is shiny. I am guessing buffed nitro.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this thread. It's been a busy spring, plus I'm a procrastinator. :mrgreen:

I'll be posting my second LP in the next week or so, but didn't want to do that until I followed up with this one.

Plays and sounds great! Course, it's the only LP I've played, so I might not know the difference. I just lowered the action some last night, so it plays even nicer now.

I did use black plastic binding on this one. Number two has cream. :-)
Finish is nitro.

Nope, it's actually a 7 piece body. ;) Menards only sells the stuff 3/4" thick, so I had to glue a bunch of pieces together to get the width and thickness I wanted.

I wish I was retired, but I'm only 30 and haven't won the lottery yet. (Course, I haven't bought any tickets either...)
