Thanks Virgil, I knew the colors would blend after shooting them. Where do you get your abalone sheets from? I need to do an inlay and would like something thicker than "0.050

The abalone I used the "dots" with build 3 were from SM... The term "sheets" would probably be in the area of Abalam, which I don't use, but the Paua ab I have used was from DePaul Supply, which I purchased over a year ago...

I knew a clear coat would do that up nice. Looks great, although the burst on the front and back, but the natural sides takes getting used to, at least for me.
Most bursts are either front and back with the darker color of the burst(usually black) more solid on the sides, or burst front with blacked out sides and back. Yours is a different look for me, but I like it.

Clear coat shot a while back ago, but it's really made everything pop. Just have to wait a few days then color sand and shoot a few heavy wet coats and wait some more.

The customer did not want a perfect even burst, he wanted something unique that resembles a shore line with a mix of hues. He actually sent me this picture as a reference.

But it's not like I stated this beforehand or anything, so no offense taken.

Hence the name, "Caribbean Burst". Makes sense!

Okay, more of an update, I put in the fret markers in a bit of a different style, and alas, they glow in the dark! (They're blue and green just like the color of the guitar)

Is that mahogany with the maple caps? What does the finished guitar weigh?

I have a one piece honduras mahogany tele body that I'm pondering, laminate with some fancier wood or just go with the hog.

I think the headstock seems a bit "metal" while the body seems kinda "surf rock".

Thanks all, I did record some sound clips before shipping it out, the color on the outside picture presents much more harsh than the guitar is in real life, I agree the headstock is metal and the rest is surf rock, this will be the last strat or tele or other manufacturer shape I will be doing, I just want to do my own designs from now on. But until school is over with this will be the last build in general, I need to get a thickness sander and a larger drill press regardless.

Funny you should mention this.
I started out wanting to do just my own designs. Did a few, but recently built a tele('72 Deluxe). It is near completion, and I'm finding that I really think I need to build a few more teles and strats. The tele came out better than my others, IMHO. And I think that I am learning something about proportion, design, etc, from building it that I didn't get from chasing my own design. I also built a P bass, and learned a lot from that as well. I think I'm gonna at least build a strat or two before I step back out and try to go for my own design. I think it'll give me a broader perspective/palate to work with.

And I've got this singlecut design that I am currently building.



I just have to get a double cut design laid out. I have been looking into doing my own CNC so I can start cranking these out a lot more quickly, but I may get a duplicarver and do it that way first.
