Todd,
Thanks for your time and effort in preparing and posting your method here. I used it for excellent accurate results. It is well presented and thought out. [clap]

I used one piece of 23/32" AC plywood 20"x96" and got 6 pieces for glue up for my complete outside mold and 7 inside mold pieces for a solid bending mold (I need to add 1 more piece for the inside) plus scraps for inside presses. bliss

Thanks again
Ed

Is there a specific reason to use birch ply over MDF?

I followed Todd's tute on the mold I used but instead of birch, I used MDF for the middle layer and some pine for the outer. I was trying to use what I had on hand. I coated it with poly to deal with any moisture issues with the MDF.

It has worked fine so far. I’ll do the same on my next one.

I would say weight would be a consideration. You could certainly use MDF, but it sure makes for a heavy mold.

Nice tutorial BTW Todd - I make all my molds this way now. [:Y:]

Bias tape saturated with hot hide glue...provides split protection...it's what Martin and Gibson used for a good long time.

Where can we get this?

Most any fabric/sewing store should have it. In the states, you can buy it at Wal-mart (Wright's Bias Tape). Don't know if you have Wal-mart or its equivalent up north.

Thanks for the repost.

I was able to use this method tonight. I patterned the Allied parlor plan.

Worked great.

Thanks again.
