I just took off the strings on my SG and I noticed the inlay on the 12th fret was starting to come off. Its actually completely off now and I have no idea why (its an old guitar from the 80's so could be an age thing). I want to put it back in. I have a wood glue that I could use. Would there be any problems in just gluing it back in?

I'd use epoxy, and maybe mix the epoxy with some ebony dust (assuming your fretboard is ebony).

if you're house is pretty exceptionally dry, then the wood might have shrunk enough to pop out the inlay. some older houses can get down into the 20% humidity range in the winter. at least where i am at. epoxy ought to fixe it up right just make sure that it will fit back flush first.

Okay sounds like epoxy is the way to go. Anything I should know about using it? Its a rosewood fretboard. And it does fit back in perfectly flush. Any type of epoxy I should use? I am completely new to this.

Epoxy might be too thick and leave the inlay proud a bit,
and you don't want to sand the inlay,
because this would be a pain, imo.
Also, it might be a sticky mess, if it comes up at da seams.
I would use some medium ca in the cavity,
and not so much that any would squeeze out.
Just enough to hold it in.
Then again,
repair work ain't my strong point!

Any of those would work. I use good ole' original titebond to glue inlays in, and have never had the slightest problem. If I had to choose something else, I'd use CA.

Okay it's stuck back in. Thanks for all the help. I screwed it up a bit, wasnt quiet flush so theres a bit sticking up. Dried so quick though. Ah well, still looks okay.
