Here's how I would explain this.

This is the kind of guitar that makes people that have ZERO interest in guitars....suddenly
become curious. It's absolutely freakin' HOT!

This makes me want to build an electric. You could make money on guitars like this Filippo.

Hell, I'd probably relearn how to play lefty for this guitar. Then again, it has side markers on both sides...

Are you doing any special kind of rubout on the neck, or will it get the same treatment as the body? Are you going for full mirror gloss?

looks good fillipo, what method do you use for buffing out your finish and level sanding? i'll be doing a couple archtops soon and im not sure the best way to go about doing the compound curves and everything.

I thing that what could be nice, in the case of a hollow-body, is to leave some wood around the electronics. You make a shielded ''chamber'' for the electronic.

But maybe this time you can try shielded wire.

You don't need to shield the whole cavity,
just above and below the electric components.
Side too, but not the whole thing IMO.
I've read one can overshield.
Cuts down highs.

Old p-90's are notorious for "noise".
Newer ones are less "noisy".
If I've got a noisy instrument, I just play it, and the noise goes away.
Check it out "as is", and if it's too noisy, add some more shielding.

i have never used p90's before so i am not sure how noisy they are and much you can get away with when using, but i think if i were in your shoes i might just use shielded wired and call it good. the first couple guitars i made i didn't even know about shielding the electronics and they still turned out alright as far as noise is concerned.

Hey Filippo,

This really turned out about as gorgeous as I possibly could've expected from those first shots of rough cutting the first pieces of lumber. Do you have any pictures or more info on those metal shafts you fashioned to connect the ferrules from front to back? You mentioned that you figured something out so that the strings pass through the body easily.

So what's that superswitch going to do with 2 p-90's?
I checked out what it can do,
but now I'm really confused.

forget your wife fillipo! guitars are far more fun, . nah just kidding i have been doing the furniture thing as well for the fiance' , making a walnut desk as my first step into the furniture world . anyways looking good hurry up and get some real photos i want to see how it comes together.

Filippo I have studied the carve on the top of this guitar and have come to the conclusion that I am confused!

Is there a flat arc down the lenght of the body with the carved areas blending into it? In other words, if I took a straight edge, and laid it on the body next to one of the pups, would there be a compound radius or just the radius going the length of the body?

Here is flat arc, in respect of what I thought I saw on the top of the your guitar and a not flat one too!
You must have very little side to side radius on the top or that is a true optical illusion.

I had not noticed before that you had carved the inside and it is a true hollow guitar. Nice work.

Filippo how wide is the flat? Just wider than the pups or 1/2" more etc will help me a ton. I have a new quasi Tele design because I do not like to copy anyone exactly, but have a build to do that the kid wanted a Tele. When I explained my thoughts with his father, he gave the go ahead for the "new" design. While I am doing the flat top I want to go ahead and do a carved top either of Mesquite or something I found in my brother's cabinet shop, therefore my questions.

Unlike you, I do not have all the hand tools to make a carve top happen so I have to use a cnc which is about the only tool I have that I will use on the builds, and to do so, I have to have a good 3d model. Chris V knows my circumstances, but currently I simply do not have the time to spend modeling it correctly, assuming I even could!

Any help you can give as far as dimensions will surely help. TIA

Great work Fillipo - that's a great design & execution!

For what it's worth, PRS's (which I believe Fillipo received some inspiration for this design), do have an angled surface on the top. This blends into the slight recurve that is carved into the edges. They used to make this angle by "chocking up" the bodies and running them through the planer. Now of course, it is all CNC'd in there using ball mills.
