i dont think i ever got photos of this up after i finished it so i thought i would share. i finished this up about a year ago i think for a buddy of mine playing in a death metal band, he wanted something that was fretless, neck-through, and looked like it could serve dual purpose as a battle ax, and this was the result. the neck is a 5 piece with maple and walnut, body wings are walnut and the top is buckeye which is absolutley gorgeous ( i still have 3 tops worth that i need to find a project for ). i was not a big fan of using the eye bolts... but he's a metal head and thats what he wanted so i had to yeild. i think it has the equivalent of around 27 frets worth of board.

Shad, I agree with all the comments above. Killer bass all around! The eye bolts aren't my thing either, but it definitely gives it a unique (and seriously metal) look.

How was it working with the buckeye burl? I've heard it's tough to deal with from start to finish.

Menacing! That thing makes me wanna run and hide, lol. Beautiful work! Beautiful wood! And you definately nailed to the tee what the customer wanted. Now you need to get him to recommend his guitarists to you. They need a matching set!

i actually really enjoyed working with it, it does not behave as most burl i have encountered. for starters it is super super light weight, i mean im talking the chunk i resawed for tops was 9x22x2.5 and it seriously weighed maybe a couple pounds, it felt like a chunk of balsa wood which is definitely a contrast to some of the other burls i have had handles that felt like a brick. as a result it was really soft, and pretty easy to work with but i did have to be careful though because it was very easy to sand off more than i intended. i think the key things though is to start with a good chunk of the stuff, the piece i got is really superb, almost none of the bark pits that you see in a lot of it out there. i think though that as long as you dont do anything stupid like run it through a planer its not to bad.



lol, dont even get me started on that i was supposed to outfit their whole band, and had already done a considerable amount of work on one members guitar and they never did come through on any of it. just goes to show you that you really shouldn't trust anyone till the money is in your hand, not even the people you consider freinds...

it all worked out though, now i am finishing up that guitar as one to simply put up for sale in the local music store and it should be a beaut when its all finished, its in the "spray booth" (e.i. the barn) at the moment should have picks up in a week or two.

Sorry to hear the deal fell through. It always amazes me people can make a living selling to probably some of the most unreliable folk(musicians) you might find.

yeah flippo, you wouldnt believe the hassle, i had to get a concealed carry licences just to put it in the case
