Are hollow & semi- hollowbody ( es35 style) controls shielded? I'm thinking of building a single cutaway semi-hollowbody with the f-holes and solid centerblock and was wondering how you would shield the electronics?

A lot of manufacturers don't do this but I hate RF noise in the system when trying to record. There are many ways to do it but I think the easiest way for a semi-hollow body would be to paint the inside cavities with conductive paint prior to gluing up the body, and then run a ground to each cavity. Not sure how that might look when finished.....whether it would show too terribly bad through the f-hole, but if it's good paint the shield will function.

if they make a conductive paint that was black i wouldnt think that would be an issue at all, your wouldnt even notice it.

I just use shielded cable. Seems to work fine.

I think you can follow Barry's advice with total confidence. I used shielded cable on my archtop, and it's a very quiet, hum-free guitar. I did ground my strings to the output jack via the tailpiece. Not sure whether that made a difference, but it sure didn't hurt.
