Hi everyone.

I have just applied the top-coat which is a Dupont Chromaclear product. I will now sand the finish with 1200 girt paper but I’m not sure if I should use water or some kind of light oil like kerosene, and I am open to suggestions.

Also: I have heard that for a professional shine the best method is to dry buff the finish with large flannel buffing wheels. Another method is to use foam pads in a drill with liquid automotive compounds. What are the advantages and disadvantages to these methods?

Wet sand with water with a bit of dish detergent in it, on my last 2 guitars I dry sanded with 800, 1200 then 1500 dry paper I got at a auto body supply store and it cuts faster and is way less messy.

The best results are to buff with the cotton wheels and Menzerna I use medium then fine. There are several youtube videos on guitar buffing, Robbie O'Briens is real good.

Thanks for that info Fred,
I looked at that video and it is very informative. Unfortunately my guitar body is similar to a Paul Reed Smith with a contoured top and bottom that dips and dives all over the place. I’m concerned that the high areas will get too much contact with the wheel and the valleys won’t get any.
