Hey all, I won a monthly giveaway from my friend and OLF sponsor Robert Cefalu a while back and decided to make myself a guitar. I paired the curly Claro Walnut with a set of nice colorful sinker redwood and built my x-braced concert model. It has curly walnut binding and maple/walnut purflings. his guitar has a very nice warm tone balanced by a nice sparkly top end that is perfect for my strumming and singalong style. I recorded one of my favorite David Wilcox tunes appropriately called "Guitar Shopping". Please give a listen and check out the finished pictures in my building blog.

What thickness did you make the top? How does it sound? I have a set that I need some guidance to use.

That's a nice looking guitar, John. I have a claro walnut back and sides set and have been wondering what type of top to match with them. Your work is inspiring. Thanks for posting the pics and clip.

Looks and sounds great! At first I thought that top was walnut, did you use a dye or tint?

Nice purfling treatment alll the way around on that dark wood. Looks like some of the sinker ended up on that headstock...very nice indeed.

I'll order a half dozen, thats if you can guaranteed delivery by this Saturday.

That's a beauty! I love the warm colors and it sounds great. The maple purfling and walnut binding is a good touch. I just cut up a billet of curly claro (4 sets worth). I think one of those sets I'm going to have to pair with some redwood. It sounds great! Did I say that already? [:Y:]

The back braces look to be a darker wood. Are they cedar or redwood, or just some really dark spruce?

The top at it's thickest I think is about .110", around the edges probably .100"

The finish is 100% clear on this one, I don't do many without messing with the colors but not here.

The headstock fingerboard and bridge are all Madagascar rosewood

The Back braces are mahogany as are the linings.

Well yes John,

Todd is usually quite correct about stuff.
And me belive him to be correct in quoteing what him be told about. "a luthier's personal guitar"

BUT...me don't buy it. (and I ain't refering to your guitar. ) What him was told, although humerous...just ain't true!

My personal instruments, well they be mine and when me dead and gone, are to be grouped together, stuffed under me stiff carcass and set afire, as dictated in me last will and testament.
Thats if Todds Industrial Military Banking Complex don't nuke us all first. Any way, they gonna get burned, toasted, fried....just like Haans been doing with him mandos....at least him smart enough to getta a head start on them before him splits.

An absolutely beautiful guitar [clap] [clap] I love the color combination,
and walnut has been one of my favorite woods all through my woodworking
guitar. Of course, now I gotta go find some nice walnut to go with a redwood
top I already have. Looks like the woods for my next build are selected...
