Well,
A local Government auction listed a 1999 Precix 5100. So now I guess it is coming my way! It has a 3hp Penske head. I know NOTHING about these things so will be bugging you all a bit once I get it set up, probably in the winter when the new shop is closed up. Anyway, this is a gantry machine that looks like more like (well exactly really) their signmaker 4400 that is listed on their site (precix.com). The company is Canadian and is located in BC so are fairly handy. Has anybody had any dealings with these machines?

Shane

Congratulations Shane!

Welcome to the madness. laughing6-hehe

Anthony

p.s. Sorry, no Precix experience here (I have a K2), but If you decide to run Rhino and RhinoCAM, I may be of some assistance...

Thanks Anthony. Rhino is indeed the program I will be using, that and SpaceClaim I am thinking. Here is a picture of the machine, it should be here in the next couple of days.

I am hoping that this machine will allow me to offer more products that I have been thinking about. More on that once I have this thing figured out.

Cool...looks fun! I would put a vote in for RhinoCAM if you haven't checked it out yet. I think it's a ton of functionality for the money...I use the basic version in my home shop and it does everything I need it to from neck carving to inlay work.

Best,
Trev

Hi Shane,

I posted on your other thread about cam software. There is a Rhino/Spaceclaim user there in Canada that you need to hook up with if you are just starting out. He also uses the cam software I suggested in your other thread, (madCam) and he loves the 3 piece software combo.

If you are interested in having his email address, pm me. I will not put it out on the net for obvious reasons! :o

Thanks Nelson!

I moved the gantry with the contoller yesterday...WOO HOOOO!! I am now waiting for collets, a new nut and wrench for the Perske router. They use an odd ball type that was fairly hard to find but they are on the way now. I just recieved my CAD and CAM software today and printed off the training manuals......lots of reading ahead [xx(] !! I have some mods to do to the table to make it so that I can use the supplied vacuum (designed mostly for large sheet stock which I will do little of) and also so I can attach fixtures. This will require adding some inserts, not at all that big of a deal! I will post some work with it once I have made something. The good news to me is that the manufacturer was watching the auction I bought this from and say that they can't believe I only paid what I did for it and confirm my feelings that this was a deal too good to be true! (it does happen sometimes!). Basically, I bought the router and VSC and the got the rest for free!

More questions to come! Thanks again for the help so far guys!

Shane
