I’m building electric guitars for re-sale, but I’m just getting into it. Is there really a big difference in the strings one puts on new guitars. Sometimes I wonder if they’re all from the same factory and just re-packaged under different names. Andy thoughts?

There are, but the buyers in this market typically change their strings frequently and would put a fresh set on of their preference as soon as it got home.

There are subtle differences in strings.

I sat with Keaggy as he changed strings on his Les Paul.

He was threading on a set of Classic Ernie Ball Rock N Roll Regular Slinky's

Now that is a mouthful.

These strings look just like the package on the 2221, these are 2251.

The difference?

This: Custom Gauge Pure Nickel Wrap, these have vintage tone.

The 2221 is Nickel Coated Steel. For that difference add about $3 extra per set.

I agree, strings are like religion, everyone has their own preference, kind of like guitars, folks get really picky about the name on the headstock.
