Geez. I'm seriously humbled by some of these.

My first, and probably my last. Built for myself. Spalted maple over mahogany, '57 classic humbuckers. Based on the Gibson CS336.

As a Ricky fan, that sure is purdy... ever made a 600 series style? - used to own the 660/12 tom petty, now sadly sold, but always fancied giving one of them a go.

I mostly build acoustics and while I really like the lines of Roger Rossmeisl guitars I'm not into making Rickenbacker copies. Ric protects their trademarks, as they should, and they cover most of the interesting Rics that one might want to copy.

Was not suggesting a sudden rush of trademark infringement, but complementing you on a design that has obviously been influenced by the 325 and taken to another asthetic level - and had you done anything similar with other designs?

A personal favourite of mine was what they now call 600 series - just a lovely shape - and still no one has come up with a more elegent design solution to the 12 string headstock.

Sorry if I came across suggesting that you were about to embark on trademark infringement, that really wasn't my intention. I like the way you describe this style of building, influenced- that's a good word.

I think most of my guitars are influenced one way or another by some classic design and then I add some of my style to it. I have not done anything else that has a Ricky influence. It was really more of a Lennon/Beatle vibe that I wanted to add to the guitar and less about Ric. In the process I've come to love the lines of all of the classic Ric guitars but there are usually thinkgs I'd want to change.

I spent a fair amount of time trying to make a guitar with a small "325" size body and a normal scale length balance and play well. I prefer not to pick over a pickup so I worked that into the design too. I wanted it to have that strat, "fits like a glove" feel. I don't think that's really possible given all the other constraints but it's reasonably comfortable. And you can't beat the neck access.

I hope you build your 600 influenced guitar. I'd love to see it.

I gotta say...I'm stunned and amazed at the talent we have from members who supposedly are here for only Acoustic Guitars. The examples shown so far are very high quality looking axes.

Keep them coming.

Also...it would be really cool for anyone so inclined to start a real-time thread showing the steps you are taking in producing your latest masterpiece. Such threads are always great for getting comments, questions, suggestions and other educational dialogue.
